Sample: High Density Sorter for Jewelry Industry (reduces footprint)

Small Item Sorter (Conveyor Sorting System)

Here we present a High Density, Small Item Sorter. This Jewelry Sorter was specifically designed to reduce the sorters footprint utilizing multiple divert Chutes.

This small item sorter will simultaneously sort irregularly shaped products, from lightweight polybags to larger boxes. The high density sorter, chute arrangement utilizes a multiple divert for each tray tilt. GBI customizes the chute arrangement based on customer requirements.

System Overview

This Jewelry Sorter was designed to reduce the sorters footprint by utilizing "Multiple Divert Chutes" for each tray tilt. The result is a system that maintains a small footprint (the sorting section below has 528 drops). GBI's high density small item sorting system incorporates the techniques developed in the larger sorting conveyor systems of the past with the latest software and control technology. The result is a system that can provide a rapid return on investment; in two years or less, depending on the customer's volume. Thus, giving companies the opportunity to increase their market share, offer faster service, while keeping costs down and profits up.

Induction

A single individual may load small products at rates up to 3,000 pieces per hour. The product can be placed on the sorter in any order. The sorter then automatically identifies the product from the bar code label and sorts it to the appropriate collection chute.

High Density Sorter Triple-Divert Chutes
 - triples the sort points (drops), while reducing sorter footprint

The expanded drop sorter takes the basic sorter, adds legs to it to raise it from the ground, and adds sixteen (16) divide by three chutes to each 7 ft. linear sort section,, thus increasing the number of sorts from 16 to 48. To accomplish this divide by three, GBI requires that the sorter be operated at the slower rate of 5000 trays-per-hour. The divide-by-three chutes use air to divert the divider between chutes. When the node controller determines the drop location, it will coordinate the chute divert, and tilt solenoid to effect the sort. Each chute divert has a sensing switch to determine if the chute has completed its divert at the specified time. Any delay is reported to the main system for action by an operator. (2-way divert chutes, also available)

Tracking

The sorter computer tracks each item, noting the time, carrying tray, designated drop location, and drop confirmation. Each drop is monitored for maximum quantity, maximum value, and quantity needed to complete the order as directed by the WMS. Additional tracking and control is available and can be customized to be your application.
